Real Yoga on the Full Moon
Happy Full Moon, Yoga Mamas! This is the fifth day of my menstrual cycle and I’m tired. Sometimes the most real yoga is admitting that I don’t have energy for anything but lying down. That doesn’t mean I always let myself lie down, but I do try to practice that awareness and self-compassion around fluctuating energy.
We can’t always be switched on, full of inspiration and verve, and constantly productive. The menstrual period is a natural moment of rest and so, I give myself permission to feel like doing nothing, even if just for a moment.
Now and then I revisit this post I wrote in November last year about the overlapping cycles of our experiences (not just the menstrual cycle). I hope you take a moment to read it and then reflect on how the different cycles of your life are colliding right now. Following what I wrote in that post, I am in the winter of my cycle in the autumn of the year in the summer of my life.
How are you feeling on this full moon, in this season of the year, at this moment of your life as a woman and mom? What do you most need from your yoga practice right now?
Me? I need a warm drink and rest. And by the way, if you are in need of deep rest and want to do yoga, too, there’s nothing better than yoga nidra. Here are some of my favorite free yoga nidras online.
