Mamas, it so often seems like there’s no time for anything. But the truth is, there’s time for everything; everything that you choose. Of course, we all have to do things that we don’t want to do sometimes, but there are dozens of less urgent things that fill our days because we get stuck in that mindset of having to get everything done before we can just relax.
Today, I made it all the way until my kids went to bed before I let myself do yoga. I could have squeezed in a short little sequence earlier in the day, but it was one of those days where I got swept up in the momentum of things…
And I so enjoy the peace at the end of the day. Even when I feel pretty tired, which I do today, but guess what? That just means that a chill, brief yoga session is in order.
I wanted to piggyback off my earlier post on using a short yoga sequence to get up off the floor and bring in another sequence to get down on the ground using a few simple yoga poses. I like to do this when I have the urge to just plop down on the couch. Not to say that I don’t plop down on the couch shortly after, but at least I can move and breathe and just sense into my body for a little bit.
Enjoy! Don’t get too caught up in the specifics of it. No need to obsess over exact alignments or perfectly straight knees, or when exactly you need to inhale or exhale. Just move and give your body some love:)
Here’s the basic sequence in the video:
Goddess pose / Star pose / Prasarita padottanasana, swaying side to side / step feet in and lower to balasana
Every Tuesday I’ll share a micropractice that helps busy moms (and dads and kids, and really anyone) to incorporate brief yoga practices into their day. Every Friday I’ll post ideas and inspiration for practicing yoga with kids. Here’s the post to kick off this biweekly series that will last until the end of the year!
