I used to be able to do the splits…now I do standing splits! Yes, there are people who can lift their leg so much that they are essentially doing the splits, but that’s not the point for this variation. There’s an added element of strength here that doesn’t come into play in traditional splits. The strength is needed to lift the leg up toward the sky. If your hands don’t quite make it to the ground or the pose just doesn’t feel right, I would suggest one-legged downward dog instead.
